Penguin B’ – UAV Factory’s unmanned

aircraft

made the longest flight in world history

What did the media report about it?

The aircraft was launched near Jelgava, Latvia on July 5, 2012, and landed on July 7, flying for more than two days. During flight – 54 hour and 27 min, the aircraft had to experience temperatures above + 30 degrees and wind gusts of up to 20 meters per second.

Previously, the longest recorded flights had been a mini-unmanned aircraft class for AAI Aerosonde, which flew for 38 hours, and 28 hours for the Insitu aircraft “Scaneagle”.

The Penguin B endurance flight was a test for UAV Factory’s latest solutions, some of which will be directly applied to commercially available Penguin B aircraft, and will be applicable to existing models.

The 54.5-hour flight opens up new opportunities for the use of small unmanned planes. With such long-flying capabilities, the aircraft is capable of operating for several days without landing. With the most advanced mini-unmanned aircraft available today, approximately three to five take-offs and grounds would be needed to do this.

As more than half of all unmanned aircraft accidents occur during the take-off and landing phases, the longest flight time greatly enhances the system’s credibility.

What we can see today?

Konstantin Popik, founder of UAV FACTORY:  ‘Today we have clients for our aircraft systems in more than 47 countries. I expect new endurance records in the near future.’

Penguin C, for example, is a long-endurance, long-range unmanned aircraft system designed for professional use. Its flight endurance of over 20 hours and operation radius of over 100 kilometers or 60 miles makes it an extremely productive unmanned platform in terms of distance traveled and area covered in a single flight. If equipped with advanced Epsilon EO payloads, Penguin C is one of the most capable surveillance and inspection UAS available on the market.
