George Armitstead – Great Brit in Riga history

This story is a tribute to Sir George Armitsted,
a great Brit most notable mayor of Riga
from 1901 to 1912 who turned it into a prosperous
trading and cultural city.

People, living in Riga, are particularly thankful to
George Armitsted as no other individual had as much
of an influence on shaping today’s Riga as he did.

It was his talents, determination and immense love
for Riga that created the generous heritage and lasting
legacies to be cherished and multiplied.
